More than a million people have been enjoying the benefits of Ultherapy for the past six years, this procedure started to get major traction ever since Christie Brinkley became the spokeswoman. Who wouldn’t want to look as fabulous as Christie Brinkley does at 65! “Ultherapy is the only FDA-cleared, non-invasive procedure that lifts and tightens the neck, chin and brow, and improves lines and wrinkles on the chest.” This procedure uses ultrasound energy to lift and tighten the skin naturally. No surgery, no downtime. You can get the procedure and go about your day and no one will know you just had a life changing treatment. This ultrasound therapy delivers a collagen boosting treatment directly to the areas we need most and will be the most beneficial.
Starting in our mid-20’s our natural collagen production starts to decline by about 1-1.7% each year and is never replenished. Once we reach 30 years old the effects of collagen loss become more noticeable. Why is collagen so important? It is the protein in the body that gives structure to your bones, muscles, skin and all other connective tissue. It is the “glue” that holds our face up. It is the magic that keeps those awful chest lines from forming on all of those side sleepers. The less our body produces the more we show signs of age with fine lines, wrinkles and sagging skin.
The focused ultrasound from Ultherapy builds collagen by sending energy to the skin’s foundational level without disrupting or injuring the surface of the skin. Unlike other modalities for skin resurfacing, lasers, radio-frequency microneedling and other technologies, Ultherapy delivers energy to the right depth at the right temperature. This jumpstarts our bodies natural regenerative process that starts collagen production. Some people are hyper responders and see results right after their treatment, however, the real results appear 2-3 months after treatment and continue to work for 12 months. You will see lifted skin on the treated areas as well as smoother skin on the brow and chest. Ultherapy won’t duplicate the results of a facelift, but it is a safe alternative to surgery and can also extend the effects of cosmetic surgery.
Ultherapy has recently changed the protocol due to extensive study to improve collagen production and obtain an increased linear lift. Our certified advanced technicians were a part of the first training offered and have seen excellent results by using this new protocol. Blume Skin & Body is excited to continue on this enhanced treatment path.
You can achieve these rewarding results in just one treatment. The first thing you need to do is schedule a one-on-one consultation with Sandra Caldwell, our Practice Director. She has been treating patients with Ultherapy for the past 6 years. During your complimentary 30-minute consultation she will address your skin concerns and assess your skin to determine if you are a candidate for Ultherapy or if one of our other treatments would suit you better. However, if you are between the ages of 25-75, you are most likely a candidate. After scheduling your appointment, you won’t need to do anything else. This procedure doesn’t make you sun sensitive, so you can keep using your retinols and it doesn’t use needles, so you don’t need to stop taking fish oils. We, at Blume Skin & Body, are concerned with patient comfort and we may recommend an over-the-counter or prescribed medication before the treatment. We also offer Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas), which is similar to what is used at the dentist office for pain management, to help relax and calm you.
At Blume Skin & Body your treatment is very easy and straightforward. In your treatment room the area(s) to be treated will be cleansed and a topical numbing cream will be applied. You will sit in a darkened room with calm music playing for about 20 minutes relaxing. The numbing cream helps you feel less of the warmth coming from the handpiece. After the numbing cream is removed, the technician will apply ultrasound gel to the first area to be treated and place the smooth treatment applicator against your skin. They will use the ultrasound imaging to see deep within your skin and find the optimal placement of the energy. You will feel tiny amounts of energy, which may feel warm, this indicates that the collagen-building process has been started. This sensation only lasts while the energy is being delivered.
Depending on the area(s) being treated the entire appointment takes from 1 to 2 hours. After you are done you are rewarded with a snack and apple juice. We find that this helps with elevating the blood sugar and is overall really helpful for patient comfort. After your treatment you can return to normal activities without any restrictions. Any redness you may have will disappear within a few hours. We apply Colorescience All Calm SPF50, which greatly reduces any redness and even though you aren’t sun sensitive is a great sun protectant. Any slight swelling, tingling or tenderness to the touch will be mild and temporary.
Here are some frequently asked questions:
How much does it cost?
The pricing is determined based on the area(s) being treated. However, you don’t want to make your decision based on price. Always look at the experience of the technician, the practice reputation and online reviews. Blume Skin & Body often offers monthly specials and if there are any available, they will be discussed during your consultation.
How many treatments does it take?
Depending on the patient’s age, the treatment lasts for 2 – 5 years. However, some patients maybe benefit from treatments more often due to their skin laxity and their body’s response to the collagen building process. Because we are always aging, future touch ups can help provide more control over the aging process, which varies by person.
How is Ultherapy different from laser treatments?
Ultherapy uses energy which allows it to bypass the skin’s surface and address laxity issues at a deeper level. The ultrasound delivery stimulates collagen production, lifting tissue over two to three months. Typically, laser treatments only treat superficial skin issues and are not FDA-cleared to lift skin.
Does it hurt?
A recent software upgrade called “Ulthera Amplify” now affords a more comfortable procedure. While comfort thresholds vary from patient to patient, most patients now report that the procedure is quite tolerable. If and when any discomfort does occur, it happens while the ultrasound energy is being delivered. This sensation is temporary and is a positive signal that the collagen-building process has been initiated. We take measures to make the experience as pleasant as possible, and patients tell us they leave comfortable and excited about the benefits to come.
