What is Xeomin®?

Xeomin® (incobotulinumtoxinA) is a botulinum neurotoxin A, similar in nature to Botox® and Dysport®, that can temporarily reduce the appearance or extent of dynamic facial crease lines resulting in a more youthful, relaxed and refreshed look. It is the newest option available in the treatment of these facial wrinkles and may offer a less expensive alternative.*

Though Xeomin® has been available in numerous countries worldwide since 2005, it just received FDA approval in August 2011. Dr. Martin Blume is one of only a handful of physicians in the Phoenix and Scottsdale area to be chosen by Xeomin’s® distributor, Merz Aesthetics, to offer this exciting new treatment before its widespread release some time in 2012.

Xeomin® can be used to treat all the same areas as BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport®. The most common requested and treated areas are the frown lines between the eyebrows, forehead creases and the crow’s feet. It can also be used to address hyperhidrosis (excess sweating) of the armpits.

Treatment of the affected areas with Xeomin® entails injecting minute amounts precisely at preselected points using an ultra-fine needle. There may be some very brief redness which can be easily camouflaged with Jane Iredale Mineral Makeup. There is typically no downtime and you should be able to return to your normal daily routine immediately after the procedure. It is recommended to try to avoid blood thinners for around 2 weeks prior to treatment as this can minimize bruising. This includes such products as aspirin, Motrin, Advil, Aleve and ibuprofen.*

Dr. Martin Blume will be among the first in North Scottsdale, Arizona to gain exclusive access to XEOMIN®. Merz Aesthetics on July 21, 2011 announced that the United States (U.S.) Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved XEOMIN® (incobotulinumtoxinA) for the temporary improvement in the appearance of moderate to severe glabellar lines, or frown lines between the eyebrows.
