ANTI-WRINKLE TREATMENT

BOTOX® is an anti-wrinkle skin treatment used to treat wrinkles that are the result of normal facial movement.

TEMPORARY CONTROL OF SKIN CHANGES

BOTOX® treatments are not suitable for permanent wrinkles caused by excessive exposure to the sun.

CAN BE COMBINED WITH OTHER FILLERS

BOTOX® can be combined with cosmetic dermal fillers to add volume and smooth.

HOW DO BOTOX INJECTIONS WORK?

Our facial expressions change because the muscles in the face contract or relax. This is caused by the brain sending a signal via our nerve endings that we want to, for example, frown or laugh. When BOTOX® is injected into a specific muscle, it blocks the signal from the nerve to the muscles in the face. This means that the nerve ending cannot tell the muscle to move. This is not a permanent condition, however, but it will last for around 3 to 4 months.*

After BOTOX® injections, your skin around the area that has been treated will look smooth and less wrinkled. BOTOX® allows the untreated areas of your face to move as normal and you will still be able to laugh, smile and frown, but with less wrinkling of the skin in the areas treated.

After a while, most patients will notice that the lines and wrinkles around their treated areas will continue to become less deep and pronounced. This is a result of the BOTOX® injections as the new skin has a chance to grow without being repeatedly creased. Hence, it appears to be smoother on the surface because it has not been creased by constant muscle activity.*

Common Questions About Botox

Still have some questions about BOTOX®? Here are some answers to common questions that we are often asked:

How does BOTOX® work?

BOTOX® works to reduce wrinkles by temporarily disconnecting the “power” from the nerve to the muscle so that the muscle does not work for a short time and can’t cause the wrinkles.

Is BOTOX® a poison?

No. BOTOX® is one of the seven proteins produced by the Botulism Bacteria. The protein is purified and used to be a wrinkle reducer. IT IS NOT THE BACTERIA.

BOTOX® is one of the most studied drugs in the world. While it is a toxin, it is not a poison! In approved and studied doses, BOTOX® is safe and effective.

Will my wrinkles be worse if I stop using BOTOX®?

No, your wrinkles will go back to their original state if you stop using BOTOX®.

How long has BOTOX® been around?

In one name or another, BOTOX® has been around well over 45 years! When originally used for eye problems such as strabismus or blepharospasm, doctors noted that the wrinkles around the eyes began to go away. Studies were done and BOTOX® got FDA approval in 2002 for cosmetic purposes. It continues to be studied in other areas for cosmetic uses. BOTOX® is one of the most studied drugs in the world.

What are the side effects and how long do they last?

The most common side effect of BOTOX® is a droopy eyelid (known as “ptosis”) or a droopy eyebrow. It is only common in 1% of the population treated and in the hands of a good injector, happens even less. A droopy eyelid can last a few weeks if the BOTOX® is injected properly, but may last as long as three months if injected improperly.* That is a reason to go to an experienced injector.

There are no long-term side effects from BOTOX®. Once injected, the toxin is completely out of the skin in 2.5 to 5 months and leaves you in the same place as before injections.

Sometimes, BOTOX® may cause a headache for a day or two. Most often, BOTOX® reduces the headaches caused by muscle contraction.*

Does BOTOX® spread to other parts of the body?

When injected in cosmetic doses for wrinkle reduction, BOTOX® is not found in other parts of the body.

How well does BOTOX® work for frown lines between your eyebrows?

BOTOX® is extremely effective for the “11s” between the eyes. If these lines are deep from long-standing frowning, one may need an additional minimally invasive procedure to fix, but once done, keeping up with BOTOX® injections will prevent them from reforming.

How long does it take to see results from BOTOX®?

You typically start to see results after BOTOX® somewhere between 2 to 9 days. Most see results in 2 to 6 days. It won’t take long to get the benefits.

Are there ways to get BOTOX® that looks natural?

A good injector can adjust the BOTOX® dose to give the desired result. She or he can inject BOTOX® to reduce lines while keeping the motion of the muscles. We can make it look natural.

Where can I get BOTOX® treatment?

There are many places to get BOTOX®, so choose carefully. Make sure the person injecting has experience and performs this procedure regularly. It’s a procedure that requires knowledge and care, so make sure the doctor you choose has it!
